It's summertime and, to save you a big long car journey to the coast, we're bringing the seaside to the heart of the National Forest. But, beware, some pesky pirates are heading this way, looking for the legendary treasure beneath the furnace (I don't think they realise it's black gold, also known as coal).
Alongside the museum being open as usual, we will be running the boat for trips along the canal. We will have a Punch and Judy show here for the little and not-so-little ones to enjoy, some have-a-go fairground games such as hook-a-duck, sweet stalls, hot food vendor, Creation Station supplying have-a-go seaside crafts, a pirate trail, and, best of all, apart from the museum, boat, and trail, the rest is free! Even the car parking.
We will have plenty of ice cream for sale in the museum shop as well as hot and cold drinks and snacks. The trail will be available to purchase from there also.
This event is a thank you to our wonderful community. We are trying to offer a cost-effective day out for those on a tight budget over the long summer holidays. We are all feeling the squeeze and this is our little way of trying to make life a bit easier. Donations are always welcome at the museum shop though.
We would love to see the site packed out with families having fun in the sun (if the sun decides to shine) and enjoying the site and everything we are offering. There will be deckchairs to relax on and watch the little ones playing in the sandpit or having a go at one of our games. Just, watch out for those pesky pirates!
